Social Emotional Learning

School education will be incomplete if we depend on classroom teaching only; it may give us excellent results but can never make students confident, self-reliant, dependable and smart in a holistic way.

Social Emotional learning curriculum helps students to achieve this goal and we have a specific plan for it in our school routine. Life skill education modules, career guidance sessions, annual events and other activities are part of this curriculum.

Life skill education modules are planned thoughtfully by trained and experienced counselors at school. The objective of these modules is to address and discuss age appropriate issues like personal safety, social etiquettes, resolving conflicts, cyber safety and importance of Emotional Quotient. These modules provide a platform for students to introspect, think with a broader perspective and understand points put forth by others. Career guidance sessions are based on online programs that analyze data provided by children. Various interesting topics such as positive and negative influence, goal setting, choosing a hobby and balancing various activities in our life are covered in these sessions. It is amazing to see kids expressing their views and participating enthusiastically in such discussions. Lot of emphasis is put into highlighting children’s strengths and challenges which help them to choose a better career.

Annual events such as Sports Day, Cultural Day, Exhibition gives an exceptional exposure for students’ creativity, scientific temper, oratory skills, presence of mind and public speaking. It helps them to develop good communication, collaboration and negotiation skills with people around them.

Our school also organizes value added programs like inter- house competitions, class assemblies, break time activities, camps and tours and various celebrations in school. Each of this activity has its own importance and helps in the stage of child development. Competitions teach children to deal with success and failure gracefully. Travelling with friends for camps and trips is a different bliss altogether! It teaches them to manage their daily chores, make new friends and deal with managing independence.

Social emotional learning curriculum is to build students' mental health and resilience; so that as they grow, they can adapt and handle what comes to them. I am happy that we are consciously working on it at school.
