Being A Woman…

Recently watched the movie ‘Anandi Gopal’ and felt immensely proud of the Indian woman! Right from Mother Teressa, Indira Gandhi, Fathima Beevi, Bachhendri Pal, Anjali Gupta to Arunima Sinha, SainaNehwal, Kalpana Chawla, Kiran Bedi all have amazed us with their achievements. The Indian woman believes and respects our culture while adapting to various circumstances across the globe. International women’s Day celebrates the achievements of women in various fields. This year the theme for International Women’s Day is ‘Balance For Better’ indicating gender balance in every aspect of life, which is the responsibility not only of women but the whole society.

In our country where still male-dominant attitudes exist, many women are trying to strike a balance between home and career; giving the best at various roles that they are playing. A woman has the mask of a housewife at home while taking care of food, kids’ studies and other household chores and that mask change into a confident, efficient employee/ employer/entrepreneur as she steps out. She does her work with commitment, helps her family to prepare for the future and herself enjoys working with colleagues. Of course, the mindset of men is gradually changing and their positive involvement in empowering women can’t be denied.

Women who are ‘homemakers’ need not feel low; in fact, they are the foundation of a healthy society. Behind every success story of people around, there is a woman! Her contribution in the form of her sacrifice, dedication, diligence and most importantly care for every member of the family plays a significant role!

Though the self-awareness in women is increasing to a great extent; often, we ourselves take our womanhood for granted, by not taking care of our physical, social, emotional and cognitive aspects of growth. For physical care, simple tasks like regular check-ups, little exercise or a walk are necessary. Appropriate outfits and makeovers give another level of confidence! For social and emotional balance, meeting people, old friends, and relatives and spending time with family; having conversations over important topics is effective. For cognitive growth, solving puzzles, reading books, playing board games, traveling and also net surfing keeps us updated and informed. We should prioritize and give some time to do these simple things as a part of our routine in order to make our life happy and meaningful for ourselves.

A woman in any role is an asset to society. So feel good about being a woman and celebrate womanhood!!

Wishing you all a very Happy Women’s Day!!
