How’s The Josh?

The new year has begun with the spirit of patriotism. Energy and enthusiasm are at their peak on the outset of Republic Day. Along with chirpy noise at school, there is an additional background sound of ‘Mark Time March’ and similar commands which inspires every student to demonstrate a good march past. March past instils certain values like discipline, orderliness and a good turnout.

The 70th Republic Day brought an amazing opportunity our way. Our school was invited to participate at Brihan-Mumbai Interschool Republic Day Parade 2019. It’s an event where many schools in Mumbai come together to march in the presence of eminent personalities from the armed forces. The invitation was an exciting one and all of us at school were thrilled by it!

The preparations were initiated and students were given an orientation about the event. Our students displayed keen interest and practice sessions commenced. It was not a cake walk as kids had to practice for more than an hour continuously. But with their tireless efforts under the guidance of teachers, they were confident and their vigour was very high from the day of dress rehearsal.

The D-day arrived and early morning around 6 am, all reached the venue- at Bandstand, Bandra. It was a dark morning, with cool breezes, tricolour lights, red carpets for the guests and of course students from 25-30 different schools in wonderful dresses; what a scene! The preparations were just perfect, ambience was completely patriotic and every person was walking with a high spirit of patriotism. The atmosphere was filled with exciting and refreshing vibes. The uniform and physique of the armed forces was another inspiring factor for us as civilians.

The Opening ceremony included Inspection of the Parade, hoisting the flag and address by the guest who was a distinguished personality from the armed forces. He interacted with students and motivated them to pursue a good education and be thoughtful in their actions. Then began the March Past which was spectacular; the drum beats, synchronisation, commands, colourful outfits and everything else was so much in tune that there was no scope for an error. Both the sides of the road were filled with audience ranging from students, parents, teachers and other public as well. Everybody was cheering the squads and marchers were filled with pride while marching ahead. There were a few floats which included Malkhamb, Kathak, Yoga, Defence show, etc.

Overall it was an amazing exposure and experience for all of us at school. Such events broaden the boundaries of a child’s mind; build their self esteem and most importantly students start realizing their self-worth. I could see the sparkle in every eye after the march past. Watching students aspiring to take responsibility for their country was the highest satisfaction at that moment.

I am sure, you are visualising and are in awestruck mode!

So, how’s the Josh??
