Two Decades at DSRB…

This academic year has been special for us as we are completing thirty years of Bombay Cambridge Gurukul and twenty years of our school! Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan Vidyalaya, Borivali has grown into an international school as Dr. S. Radhakrishnan International School, Borivali. In twenty years we have made our mark from the local map to the global map. Sixteen batches of students have passed SSC and our first batch of IGCSE students is getting ready! What makes each school special? I believe it’s the school’sculture that makes each school unique! Over these twenty years, we are learning to learn new ideas and skills every day. Few years back, there was a different set of problems and solutions, but we have labelled those old sets as ‘Obsolete’ and are now ready to evolve with new systems, procedures and solutions every day. Parent profile has changed to a great extent from joint family culture to nuclear families with working and ambitious parents - naturally more demanding...

Examination Fever!

Enough instructions are being given to them by everyone around, and many phone calls are attended by them. Series of similar questions and answers over all these conversations! And it becomes truly testing time for parents. Handling child’s anxiety and tantrums on one side and facing pressure by relatives and neighbors on the other side becomes challenging for par...

Recently I came across a short story about a little girl. The girl and her father were crossing a bridge. The father asked his daughter, “Please hold my hand so that you don’t fall into the river.” The little girl said, “No, Dad. You hold my hand.” “What’s the difference?” asked the puzzled father. “There’s a big difference,” replied the little girl. “If I hold your hand and something happens to me, chances are that I may let your hand go. But if you hold my hand, I know for sure that no matter what happens, you will never let my hand go.” This small story gives a very big message. Most of us will agree that children today are practical, focused and mature than the previous generation. They trust us and follow us on many occasions. They realize many small things that we do or don’t do for them. Parents have a great impact on their children and children do tend to grow up like their parents. Research has shown that parents are powerful role models for their childr...
